Remains of the former moated castle of the Counts of Hoya.
The Stockturm, probably the oldest building in Nienburg, is one of the town's landmarks. The moated castle of the Counts of Hoya formed a further fortification within the town's ramparts and served as the permanent residence of the Counts of Hoya from 1324. After the Thirty Years' War, the castle and outbuildings were demolished. Only the castle tower remained. It was then used for military purposes, including as a prison. Prisoners were kept "in the stocks" here. In 1975, the Stockturm was restored by the Corps Hannoverania on the occasion of the 950th anniversary celebrations. Today it is home to the Corps Hannoverania and the Rühmkorffbund.
In the foyer of the tourist information office, Lange Str. 18, there is a model of the former Grafenburg. Only the name "Schlossplatz", next to the Stockturm tower, still refers to the former count's residence.
