The church has borne the name "Zum Guten Hirten" since 1986.
The Schwarmer church was first mentioned in a document in 1214. The present Lutheran church was completed between 1778 and 1784 and restored between 1960 and 1964. It is 86 feet long and 46 feet wide. The 42-metre-high tower was not built until 1879. The name comes from a window in the nave depicting Jesus as a shepherd.
