An approx. 65 km long circular tour along the Weser cycle path between Nienburg and Hoya.
Discover part of the Weser Cycle Path as a circular route on the main and alternative route. You can change sides of the Weser several times and determine the length of your cycle tour yourself.
Sights along the route: old town and museum landscape Nienburg (asparagus, regional and police museum), St. Clemens Church Marklohe, old village Drakenburg, Wassarium Drakenburg, Marina Mehlbergen, Weser ferry Schweringen, collegiate church Bücken, Hoya Castle
Nienburg, probably originally derived from "Neue Burg", is the economic and cultural center on the Middle Weser. Historic town on the German Half-Timbered Road with over 1000 years of history. The Counts of Hoya once resided here. The town, which today has around 32,000 inhabitants, was first mentioned in a document in 1025 and was an important fortress town at the Weser crossing in the Middle Ages.
Lovingly restored half-timbered buildings, Burgmannshöfe such as the Posthof, the Hakenhof or the Fresenhof, bourgeois and patrician houses bear witness to its long history. At the end of the 18th century, a closely guarded French sponge cake recipe added a sweet secret to Nienburg.
The "Nienburger Bärentatzen" are still something special today. You can also get to know "Nienburger Bärentatzen" in another way. Go on a search for traces of the town's sights and follow the painted bear paws. 500 "footprints" of this special kind lead through the entire old town and serve as a guide for history-loving visitors. The 3.3 km circular route is described in a brochure.
If you visit Nienburg on Wednesdays or Saturdays, don't miss "Europe's most beautiful weekly market". This award was presented by the "Lebendige Stadt" foundation. Nienburg also has an interesting museum landscape: Regional Museum, Lower Saxony Asparagus Museum and Lower Saxony Police Museum.
From Nienburg, you have the opportunity to cycle on both sides of the river. The main route leads from Nienburg harbor over the Weser bridge to the left side of the Weser to Drakenburg. Passing the jetty, the journey continues to Marklohe with the Romanesque St. Clemens Church and its impressive ceiling paintings. The Mehlbergen marina is also worth a visit. Before Drakenburg, you have to make a decision: Stay left and cycle north along the Balge lock canal towards Hoya via the alternative route or cycle over the Weser weir to Drakenburg on the right-hand side of the Weser.
The old village with the Weser Renaissance archway and St. John the Baptist Church is of particular importance here. In the "Wassarium" water adventure park in Drakenburg, you can learn all about the wet element.
From Drakenburg, you can cycle south again on the alternative route of the Weser Cycle Path and back to Nienburg or the journey continues - then on the main route of the Weser Cycle Path - close to the Weser in a northerly direction to Eystrup and Hoya. In Schweringen, the main route of the Weser Cycle Path crosses the Weser ferry Schweringen-Gandesbergen (March-October) to the left bank of the Weser.
In Bücken on the left bank of the Weser, the collegiate church with its double-tower façade is a "must". The "Cathedral of the Hoyaer Land" is home to magnificent art treasures. In Hoya, you have the option of crossing the Weser and cycling back to Nienburg on the other side.
