Hiking or pilgrimage on a section of the Way of St. James through the municipality of Weyhe (circular tour possible)
Most people think that the famous Way of St. James only runs through France and Spain. However, you can also set off from Germany on one of the many pilgrimage routes that end at the tomb of the Apostle James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. One of these pilgrimage routes - the Baltic-Westphalian route - runs via Bremen, through Weyhe and on to Syke-Barrien.
The route can also be walked as a circular tour. Start at Dreye station:
1. From the station, first cross the traffic lights and then turn left along Dreyer Straße for approx. 650 meters. At the end of the cul-de-sac, turn right into Gehrlandsweg. The path leads you across the grounds of the "Wiking-Faltbootwanderer Kirchweyhe e.V.". Walk past the clubhouse on the left and up the steps onto the dyke. You are now on the Weser dyke hiking trail, which you now walk along on the right. After an industrial estate, a magically tranquil landscape opens up with small bathing lakes, park benches that invite you to linger and lots of nature. Shortly before the railroad bridge, you will find the first sign of the German St. James Society: Blue stickers with a yellow scallop shell along the approx. 15 km section of the Weyher Pilgrims' Way signal to you that you are on the right path.
2. Follow the Weser dyke hiking trail until you reach the road "Am Deich". Turn right there. If you follow the road straight ahead, you will automatically come to Kirchweyher Straße, which initially runs parallel to a small housing estate and later along beautiful fields and meadows. Follow this road for approx. 1.6 km.
3. Shortly after crossing the Ochtum bridge, turn right onto the "Koppel" path. Further on, this path is called "An de Köppel".
4. After approx. 350 m, turn left into the path "Zum Wittrocksee". Your path now leads you through the so-called Kirchweyher Kuhweide to the beautiful Wittrocksee. Here you will find the first stamp station on our route! The Warneke barn market. After a short break on the bench, you can continue... Stay on this path, which is later called "Am Kuhzaun" and then "Kleine Heide".
5. When you reach the center of Kirchweyhe, turn right into Bahnhofstraße and immediately left again into Heidfeldweg. From here it is only a few hundred meters to Kirchweyhe train station. Now follow Heidfeldweg until you reach Ulmenstraße, where you turn left. At the end of the street, turn right for a short distance into the street "Am Fuhrenkamp", which bends to the left at the end and then continues to the right next to the KGS Kirchweyhe school building.
6. Cross the main road and continue straight ahead into the street "Am Neddernfeld". Here, the outdoor pool on the Hache invites young and old to enjoy a swim in the summer!
7. Approx. 300 meters after the swimming pool, turn left onto a dirt road, which bends to the right after approx. 150 meters. Now you walk past fields and meadows for a while.
8. On the right-hand side, you will discover a biotope at the edge of the path, which you walk halfway around. Pass the "Schießstand" and you will come back to the road "Am Neddernfeld". Turn left there.
9. After approx. 230 meters you will come to Lahauser Straße. If you now go a little way to the left, you will come to Bauer Brüning, where our second stamp station is located. A small farm store offers a fine selection of seasonal and regional products. Opposite the farm is the landmark of the district of Lahausen: the Lahauser Spieker. From Bauer Brüning, turn right again along the road, past the Niemeyer horse boarding house and directly behind the farm, turn left onto the field path. Follow this straight ahead.
10. This is where the Weyher Pilgerweg section ends. Alternatively, you can make your way back to our starting point at Dreye railroad station. To do this, please follow the marked routes (also blue). If you continue along this route, you will arrive in the Barrien district of Syke (approx. 3 km). There is a train station here.
