Lake Steinhude is the heart of the nature park and the largest shallow lake in Germany.
The sparkling body of water forms the core of the nature park and is the Mecca for water sports enthusiasts: whether sailing, surfing, kite surfing, SUP, swimming. With 32 square kilometres of water surface, the Steinhuder Meer is the largest inland lake in northwest Germany and has an average water depth of 1.50 metres.
