Experience the moor with the Uchter Moorbahn.
With a total length of more than ten kilometers, the moor railroad in the Great Uchter Moor has the longest network of similar railroads in Lower Saxony. Take a carefree ride through the 3263-hectare nature reserve and get to know the moor in a different way on the 2-hour trip.
There are 13 stations along an adventure trail where visitors can find out about the moor, peat, fauna, flora and nature conservation. The trail starts at the train station in Essern (Sundays, April to October). The "Tor zum Moor" information center is also located here. The exhibitions provide explanations and showpieces on the subject of moorland and peat. As an archaeological sensation, the "Great Uchter Moor" has uncovered the oldest bog body in north-west Germany to date, "Moora" the girl from the Uchter Moor, after approx. 2650 years. The Lower Saxony State Office for the Preservation of Monuments has successfully researched many things about Moora, her environment and her habitat over several years.
