The Ole Schüne in Drakenburg.
In June 1986, the old barn of the farmer Horst Meyer, which was condemned to demolition, was acquired. It was renovated over a one-year construction period with considerable personal contributions and the financial support of Drakenburg and the municipality of Heemsen. This building, today's "Ole Schüne", is the clubhouse of the local history association. Volunteers help to ensure that the people of Drakenburg, guests and day-trippers can relax with coffee and cake in a cozy atmosphere on Sundays from 2 to 5 pm. Old furniture and handicraft tools on display provide an insight into the lives of our ancestors. The changing exhibitions and cultural events also invite you to visit.
The "Ole Schüne" also offers the opportunity to have a civil wedding there. It offers space for around 20 people (Heemsen registry office, tel. 05024-98050).
A memorial stone in front of the Olen Schüne commemorates the Battle of Drakenburg on May 23, 1547. North of Nienburg/Weser, the Protestant army of the Schmalkaldic League defeated the imperial troops of Duke Erich II of Calenberg, who was only able to escape by swimming across the Weser. As a result of the Battle of Drakenburg, northern Germany became free of imperial troops, strengthening the position of Protestantism.
