Germany's first museum railroad with more than 100 small railroad vehicles.
Time hasn't stood still in Bruchhausen-Vilsen, it's just been turned back. The oldest German open-air railroad museum shows a unique collection of more than 100 small railroad vehicles from the years 1889 to 1966: steam and diesel locomotives, railcars as well as passenger and freight wagons. It also includes the old station building, tracks, platform and halls. During the week, when there are no trains running, the halls can also be viewed from the inside if there is staff on site.
Historic narrow-gauge railway line from 1900
On Saturdays and Sundays from May to October, the historic rail vehicles run on a narrow-gauge line between Bruchhausen-Vilsen and Asendorf. Visitors can experience the authentic operation of a narrow-gauge railroad as it was part of everyday life in many regions of Germany from the turn of the 20th century until around 1950. There are also popular special events such as the historical weekend. The layout itself is also worth seeing, with its goods shed, vehicle shed, reloading shed, rolling stock facility and turntable. The station and its outbuildings were built around 1900, when the narrow-gauge railroad was also inaugurated. The line to Hoya was converted to standard gauge in 1963 and to Syke in 1965.
