Today, the historic Amtshof is the seat of the administration of the Steyerberg district.
The Amtshof was built around 1550 by the Counts of Hoya from the remains of Steyerberg Castle and is picturesquely situated on Jacobiinsel, which is surrounded by two arms of the Aue and was once only accessible via a drawbridge. Originally, the Amtshof was not only an administrative center, but also a farm with stables that were considerable for the time, a grain barn, other outbuildings and a "gefengenus (prison) in the earth".
The wedding room in the Amtshof is stylishly furnished with historical furniture and can be opened up to form a representative meeting room, so that larger wedding parties can also attend the wedding ceremony in a setting appropriate to the occasion if required. Experienced registrars will make your wedding ceremony very personal, so that you can remember the day on which you tied the knot as a uniquely beautiful experience in every respect (information: Steyerberg registry office, tel. 05764-96060).
There are public toilets in the town hall building.
