One of the largest folk festivals in northern Germany.
As one of the largest folk festivals in northern Germany, the Brokser Heiratsmarkt attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the climatic health resort of Bruchhausen-Vilsen every year at the end of August.
Whether it's bratwurst and beer, sweets and a wild carousel ride, a bit of shopping, trying your luck at the lottery, a leisurely stroll through the trade tents or partying in the numerous festival tents. There really is something for everyone here. The trade show with traders from the municipality and national companies is located in the trade tents.
The highlight at the Brokser Heiratsmarkt are the popular fun weddings, the "marriage on trial". This works in a similar way to a real marriage with a wedding speech, sparkling wine and gingerbread heart as well as a top hat, bouquet and even a veil. The couple then receive an official-looking wedding certificate and, to top it all off, they can even take a souvenir photo. However, this marriage is not permanent, as it expires on the last day of the market at the latest. Every year, around 100 to 130 couples are "married for fun" - and the trend is growing.
Other highlights at the Brokser Heiratsmarkt are the election of "Miss Brokser Heiratsmarkt" and the fireworks display on Friday, as well as the traditional horse market with a young foal show and the bachelor auction on Tuesday, the last day of the market. Even today, purchases at the horse market are still sealed with the traditional handshake.
