Ernst Thoms was a painter and honorary citizen of the town of Nienburg/Weser. He was born in Nienburg in 1896 and died in Wietzen/Langeln in 1983.
Thoms was a representative of "New Objectivity", a style of painting characterized by constructive austerity. He painted landscapes with passion, to which he lent "an unmistakable artistic expression".
