Unique wallpapers with motifs from Brazil.

The old Lower Saxon noble family, which is mentioned in documents as early as 1189, has been resident on the manor in Hoya, located directly next to the town hall on the east bank of the Weser, since 1325. The manor has a varied history. During the Thirty Years' War in 1625, it was probably completely destroyed by the Danes and was rebuilt in a makeshift fashion in 1650. In 1721, a castle-like residential building was built, which again fell victim to violent hostilities. It was burned down with all the farm buildings during the Seven Years' War on February 23, 1758 on the orders of French General Chabot. The new house dates back to 1765 and an extension was added in 1830.

In this extension, the "Knights' Hall", furnished for festive occasions, contains a special cultural and art-historical feature: the room is adorned with a colorful tapestry. A panorama comprising thirty panels shows "Les Vues des Brésel" from the colonial era with exotic-looking landscapes, buildings, scenes from the working world of slaves, a bullfight and encounters between Indians and whites. The artwork, which is unique in Europe in this form, was hand-printed in 1829 in the Alsatian wallpaper factory Jean Zuber et Cie, which still exists today. The motifs are based on originals by the painter Johann Moritz Rugendas (1802-1858), who took part in an expedition through Brazil between 1822 and 1824 and later spent more time in South America.
