Insel Darlaten

Former defense system.

In the state forest near the "Grüner Jäger" is "The Island", a 19th century defensive structure. During this time, Prussia controlled several areas in the vicinity. A group of royal Hanoverian soldiers hid in the complex at the time. They wanted to make their way to the main army in Göttingen. However, they were unable to reach their destination as Hanover became a province of Prussia. The soldiers finally surrendered to their powerful enemy. The site has been largely well maintained since then. Today it consists of a small wall made of field stones and a round ditch.
